Your Virtual Pride Guide 2020

Welcome! We're so happy to have you here. As you probably know, many in-person pride events have been cancelled this year, but we're taking pride online. We've pulled together resources for LGBTQ families here, so be sure to bookmark this page and check back throughout the month!

Gay Parents To Be | Pride Is Family 🌈

Here at Gay Parents To Be and RMA of Connecticut, family building is our focus. Over the last few weeks, we’ve taken time to reflect on what a more mindful (socially distanced) #pridemonth will look like this year, and what it really means to us.

This month, let’s honor #Pride by moving toward inclusivity and equality. Let’s put in the intellectual, physical, financial, emotional, and societal work. Let’s all do that and call it Pride.
This month, we also want to offer you a guide to honoring pride at home. As you scroll down you'll find articles, a calendar of events, and ideas for how to make your home pride extra special. It might not be a parade, but this year we're proud to connect (virtually) more than ever.
Honoring pride, from our family to yours ❤️

SomeGoodNews 🌈 Pride Edition

If you haven't been watching SomeGoodNews, you're missing out. We think the world could use a little bit more of that, so we're using this space to keep a running list of all LGBTQ positive news, tidbits, and stories throughout the month of June.
P.S. If you have a piece of good news yourself, feel free to share! You can email me directly at 💌
  • 📚🌈This list of books that is perfect for a Pride Month Book Club
  • 📺 🌈 If TV is more your thing (we're not judging)...check out this list of LGBTQ+ shows to binge now.
  • 📽️🌈 Don't worry, if you've made it through the books and shows above, this list of top LGBTQ films of all time will keep you busy as you enjoy the air conditioning!
  • 👢👢These boots (that) are made for walking…around the apartment. One of the more lighthearted things I look forward to during pride month is the colorful explosion of rainbow products from all kinds of brands - but I get especially excited about shoes. This article highlights what some of your favorite footwear brands are releasing to celebrate pride - plus, the ways that they’re giving back to the community. Whether you’re more excited about boots, sneakers, or socks because #stayathome - there’s something for everyone here.
  • 📺This Entertainment Weekly”Pride Forever” cover, created in collaboration with LGBTQ illustrators, in honor of LGBTQ Hollywood icons.
  • 👅🌈Give the Rainbow with Skittles' colorless Pride Packs. The candy company is removing it's rainbow packaging during the month of Pride to generate conversation about LGBTQ issues. Plus, $1.00 of every pack sold will be donated to GLAAD.
  • 🎬Broadway is going live! Playbill just announced that every Friday in June Pride Plays will present live streamed readings of plays by and about the LGBTQ community, to support Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
  • 🚴🏃💪Pride Strong. This year there are so many amazing ways to get your sweat on and celebrate pride at the same time. Whether you're sweating it out on the bike with #PelotonPride or running a virtual pride 5K with me, you can't go wrong with a combination of endorphins and pride spirit!

Pride Gives Back 💚

We'll be honest - we know that the corporatization of Pride is a controversial topic for many in the LGBTQ community. Here at Gay Parents To Be, we understand that a splashy rainbow campaign during June does much less than constant support of the LGBTQ community each and every day.
However, we would be remiss if we didn't call out some of the organizations that are giving back to the LGBTQ community during this time. Check out the list below for companies that are partnering with charities to honor pride month, as well as great causes that deserve our support year round.

During Pride Month, we are reminded that the history of the LGBTQ rights movement is intrinsically linked with the black community. We are also reminded of the fact that Pride began as a riot, and that we are  able to celebrate the way we now do thanks to members of the BIPOC LGBTQ community who stood up to violence and injustice. The organizations and links below are just a few of the ways that you can support the black LGBTQ community.
If there is another organization that you would like to see listed here, please email suggestions to

  • Converse - This year's Converse Pride collection supports an ongoing commitment to LGBTQ
youth as they spark progress to build the future they believe in. Converse's annual Pride collection contributions support global and local LGBTQ youth partners, including the It Gets Better Project
  • Apple Watch - Proceeds from the pride band and pride sport band offered by Apple and Nike go to support LGBTQ organizations doing vital advocacy and community-building worldwide, including GLSEN, PFLAG, The Trevor Project, Gender Spectrum, The National Center for Transgender Equality, and ILGA World, which brings together more than 1,500 member organizations in more than 150 countries and regions.
  • Brooks Run Proud Collection - Many runners may be familiar with Brooks, a running shoe and clothing company known for their seasonal shoe and gear releases. This pride month, Brooks partners with Front Runners, an LGBTQ+ running club with several chapters nationwide. The company provides grants to chapters in Seattle, Portland, Atlanta, San Francisco, and West Palm Beach.
  • Kiehl’s - On June 5th, Kiehl's will host a dance party on @Kiehls Instagram Live Channel with LGBTQ ambassadors to encourage followers to make a donation to The Trevor Project.
    Stay tuned for more!
