Anti-Bullying Day

Last week we started a conversation about negative, hurtful and/or insensitive comments that you have received around expanding your family to include a child. We were overwhelmed by the responses. They were heartfelt but also extremely real and genuine. We have taken your responses and used them as inspiration for a future blog post to come. Stay tuned for this blog in the coming weeks.

National Bullying Prevention Month

October is National Bullying Prevention Month and on October 17 we went purple for Spirit Day to take a stand against the bullying of LGBT youth. Homophobic bullying doesn’t end there. Our Facebook conversation last week has shown that same-sex parents are often asked intrusive, insensitive and uncomfortable questions regarding their family building from both the straight and LGBT communities. People often respond to uncomfortable or different issues in a negative way because they do not know what to say. Let’s share the positive responses that you would like to hear instead.

Share Your Stories

What are the comments that you've received that have been helpful? Or soothing? Better yet, what would you like to hear? Is there some loving comment that would be just right?

We’d love to hear your experiences and your suggestions. Maybe if we share them in a big enough way, that’s what we will all start to hear. Wouldn’t that be a lovely change? Please feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments section below or over on our Facebook page. Let us know if you are willing to share the comments that you post. Stay tuned for another blog post chronicling your positive responses.

Let’s start a new trend, starting with compassion and love.
