Gay Parents To Be had quite a year in 2015. We spent a lot of time and energy commenting on the groundbreaking news that was the culmination of decades of hard work and attention to detail. From the joyful news of marriage equality to the ever-emerging voice of our transgender population, we discussed it here. We thought about it. We wrote about it. We engaged our Notable Contributors to help us understand the political, medical and legal climate across the country and even the world.

There may be nothing as surreal to a parent as their child telling them that they are not the gender that they were assigned at birth. Imagine what it must be like for a parent to hear their 5, 10, 15 or 20 year old son or daughter, tell them that they are not really a boy or a girl? That God made a mistake and put them in the wrong body?

Supporting The LGBT Community Through The Color Purple Today, Thursday, October 15, is a day where we come together, stand up and say no more bullying our LGBT youth. And we do more than say it. We do something about it. We can turn it purple and add our voices that way, thanks to GLADD and then? We can go even further. We can go into the schools and the workplaces. We can educate educators. We can educate students. We can educate employers and employees and work colleagues. Read an excerpt from the GLAAD press release earlier this month and learn how you can turn things purple today:

Attorney Victoria Ferrara wrote a piece that she immediately shared on her own website concerning the Supreme Court Decision regarding marriage equality. With her permission, (Attorney Ferrara is a Legal Notable Contributor for GayParentstoBe), we are sharing her blog here. The actual words of the decision that she quoted here may actually bring tears to your eyes. They certainly did for so many of us across the nation. Attorney Ferrara ties the issues together in a concise and direct way, answering many questions that are rumbling around out there about why and if it was proper that the U.S. Supreme Court took this question on at all. Attorney Ferrara puts this landmark decision into proper perspective and helps us see that yes, it’s time to celebrate.

Today is a good day for children and families. The Supreme Court ruling will have huge implications for children of same sex parents who want to marry. For the children, this ruling legitimizes their family. No longer is there a shadow of unease knowing that a state can declare that their family is different from others. This ruling speaks across state lines and directly to the children of same sex parents that what matters in the law is that two people choose to marry. No caveats, no limitations. Someone else's opinion has no sway or recourse with your family.

You probably know how strongly you feel about having a family. You probably remember the thoughts and dreams you had growing up, imagining your children or babies. You probably have a good idea just how deep seated and powerful this desire is, to have a baby and you probably have an excellent idea of just how prevalent these thoughts are on a day to day basis. Or an hour by hour basis.
